The Challenge Ahead The purpose of this role is to lead and support the Area Manager in the delivery of an electrical project. The incumbent identifies and manages project‑related Health, Safety and Security (HSS), Environment, Employee Relations (ER), Community and project risk. The person provides technical expertise in planning and execution of construction strategies, standards/frameworks, integration and interface management across the project lifecycle to ensure delivery in line with the approved statement of requirements. Core Responsibilities
- Plan (in SPS/DPS) and support the area manager in the execution phase of a project in compliance with internal and external governance processes and Global Standard performance requirements, ensuring safe delivery of the scope of work within approved quality, schedule, cost and business case KPIs.
- Monitor construction work packages cost, schedule and risk, perform work package forecasting, and provide delivery inputs to monthly reports.
- Conduct field test works to support the engineering team, leading contractors to comply with the package budget, schedule, quality and zero incidents.
- Mobilize to the field to ensure adequate preparation of the construction works is in place.
- Support visits from relevant project stakeholders to the field.
- Ensure timely delivery of any owner obligations within defined scope – e.g., access, accommodation, approvals, permits, water, power, free‑issue equipment and materials, temporary facilities, etc.
- Coordinate implementation of construction strategies, methodologies, systems and execution plans that minimize waste and preserve value; explore best‑fit solutions, take ownership of decisions and manage value impacts within defined scope.
- Identify, assess and manage construction risk and constructability within defined scope, communicate risks to stakeholders, make risk‑informed decisions, and use BHP’s risk management framework to support safe and productive performance outcomes.
- Drive best‑value decision‑making to advance the defined scope while minimizing delays and setbacks toward project KPIs; monitor delivery to ensure deviations from the execution plan are adequately managed, communicated, mitigated and rectified.
- Ensure all tie‑ins, testing, start‑up and ramp‑up are planned and executed to minimize operational impacts.
- Manage performance of third‑party construction within the defined scope; participate in contract tender, evaluate, award processes, and manage implementation and administration of awarded contracts.
- Collaborate with functional resources to achieve the project’s integrated scope, deliverables, quality, cost and schedule requirements, integrating and coordinating functional inputs required for delivery.
- Ensure the project is delivered aligned to BOSH practices. Requirements What we expect from you
- Full lifecycle project management experience, including works for Minera Escondida.
- Have an overriding commitment to the BHP Charter Values.
- Experience leading shifts in a construction environment.
- Be proactive and self‑driven, with an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving abilities to deliver complex solutions across a project.
- Good technical and communication skills, including the ability to analyse data and produce concise reports and presentations.
- Team player who operates with honesty and integrity and works effectively with others.
- Availability for working 5x2 in Santiago and 4x3 or 7x7 shifts in Minera Escondida. Required education University degree in engineering or similar (electrical engineering or construction preferred).
