Position Details Position Name: Teacher Librarian Reports to: Deputy Head of School for Teaching and Learning Time commitment: Full-time The position Teacher Librarians play a pivotal role in cultivating a vibrant and forward-thinking learning environment at Nido. They demonstrate dedicated partnership with classroom teachers to design learning experiences that foster critical thinking, information literacy, media literacy, and digital citizenship. Teacher librarians also effectively manage the assets of the media center and serve as cultural ambassadors to our community. Relevant certifications in library and information science. Demonstrated experience in overseeing a school library or media center. Strong grasp of current and emerging technologies related to information retrieval, media literacy, and AI Literacy. Experience with Library Management Systems (Follett, Aleph or others). Fluency in English required, fluency in Spanish preferred. Experience working in a multicultural environment. Main Duties and Responsibilities Media Center Management Manage the day-to-day operations of the school's media center, ensuring a welcoming and conducive environment for students and faculty. Implement efficient cataloging, organization, inventory and maintenance of circulation and collection development policies and systems. Collaborate with other members of the Media Center Team to ensure an efficient and invitational model of service delivery. Supervise Library Assistants. Resource Acquisition Collaborate with teachers and members of the Teaching and Learning Team to identify and acquire relevant resources that align with the curriculum. Stay informed about educational trends, technology, and media to ensure the media center's collection is up‐to‐date and diverse. Information Literacy and Research Skills Design and deliver information literacy instruction to students, empowering them to critically evaluate and use information effectively. Provide tailored support for research projects, guiding students in the use of various research tools and databases, working collaboratively with classroom teachers. Advocate for promoting a community of critical thinkers, skillful researchers, ethical users and communicators of information. Technology Integration Work with teachers to integrate technology into lessons and projects. Design and facilitate workshops for students on topics related to digital literacy, responsible internet use, and the ethical use of information. Collaboration and Professional Development Collaborate with teachers and members of the Teaching and Learning Team to plan and implement cross‐curricular projects that leverage the resources of the media center. Provide ongoing support for teachers in incorporating library resources into their lesson plans. Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on educational best practices and advancements in library science. Promoting Future-Focused Skills Develop programs and initiatives that foster critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and other attributes of the Portrait of a Nido Learner. Actively engage students in activities that promote a love for reading, learning, and exploration. Community Engagement Foster a sense of community within the media center, encouraging students to view it as a hub for learning and collaboration. Organize events and activities that involve parents, creating a partnership between the media center and the school community. Other Professional Responsibilities Represent Nido with students, parents, colleagues, and broader school community in a professional manner. Promote the school's shared mission, vision and guiding statements. Build trusting relationships that promote mutual respect and collaborative practice.
