- Solid Waste Division Truck Driver (Master Equipment Operator) Starting Salary: $35,110.94 General Duties and Responsibilities Performs semi-skilled and skilled work in operating garbage trucks, including automated garbage collection trucks, rear loader garbage collection trucks, other large trucks, and performing a variety of manual work related to the transportation of refuse, including manual loading of trash as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must have ability to operate large trucks safely; knowledge of traffic laws, general maintenance, and hazards associated with operating motorized equipment; ability to perform manual work (collecting refuse) in varying weather conditions; have the ability to work independently and adhere to garbage collection routes and schedules; have the ability to understand and interpret simple oral and written instructions and have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with citizens and coworkers. Requirements Completion of high school or GED and a minimum of two years of experience in the operation of heavy trucks required. Must have a valid NC Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
